I was speaking to my mother, or rather arguing, about her ardent support towards our ever-consistent president, and she told me something that explained to me somewhat, how the minds of these ‘older’ people are working.

She said to me ‘When I was a young girl, my mother used to tell all the people to vote for Maumoon, or else we will not get good food, and education and medical facilities.’

Yes, that’s right, basically, by letting him have the maximum amount of votes from all over the neighborhood or district or whatever, she wants to suck up to him so that he wont punish her. And I’m sorry if I offend people when I say this but that doesn’t sound like the makings of as perfect a president as he makes himself out to be.

Through out her entire life, my mother has been told that if she doesn’t like Maumoon, then she will in turn have to suffer. She has been forced to believe that there is nobody else in the entire world who can be responsible for this dot of a country, that he is only one who is pure, he is the only one who is uncorrupt and he is always right, and if she doubts his grace, its her problem.

Maumoon has successfully proven his ‘Godliness’ by putting in practice the same thing they repeatedly tell you during Islam period in school; love your God or he will screw you backwards later.
